Those three people have a very extraordinary and very interesting profession. However, there is nothing dislikable here, it is just fairly generic and that is not going to be enough to claw its way into many power metal listener’s libraries.Meet Mary, Daniel and Linda. Considering the countless choices of power metal to listen to, it is difficult to imagine Tragedian reaching a wide audience. While the majority of the songs are interchangeable, “Emotions” and album closer “Obscured Dreams” offer a slower tempo and distinguish themselves from the rest of the pace. Most of the songs are quite speedy with some good riffing and noticeably athletic drumming. Album opener “Into The Light” is unquestionably the highlight, a fantastic way to kick things off that recalls the majesty of early Labyrinth. Unfortunately, it also means there is not much variety to his vocals, and he is also mixed too prominently so that he somewhat overpowers the music.įrom beginning to end, MASTER OF ILLUSIONS is a solid album that breaks no new ground but sticks to a well-trod and reliable path. This helps ground the music and sound less ornate than say Avantasia. Pabón is capable with a comfortable range that he rarely stretches to the upper registers. MASTER OF ILLUSIONS is power metal made in a traditional style, which means quick palm mute chugs, fast kick drumming and some keyboards. Palermo is the main song writer and driving force, which lends some consistency to the albums as the lineups have changed several times through the years. MASTER OF ILLUSIONS is the band’s 5th studio album, and second to feature Venezuelan singer, Joan Pabón. Early versions of the band date back to 2002, but the debut album was not released until 2008. Tragedian is a Hamburg, Germany based band, formed by American guitarist Gabriele Palermo.
